I did my first Energy Management presentation on Tuesday and it went great.
As you can tell by yesterday’s blog, I was pretty nervous because talking about energy means a lot, and I was worried people might think I’m crazy.
But on the day, I felt prepared and judging by the reaction, it made me feel like I’m not alone in this struggle to manage my energy.
And it went so well that I even got asked to do another one!
The 30 minute talk (followed by Q&A) was 3 stories from my life (both during my rugby career and when I’m struggling in retirement) about why I prioritise the things that give me energy.
And I felt a huge weight off my shoulders because so many people said they could relate!
There was even some tears as I talked about losing a teammate to suicide, and how I fell out of love with rugby after losing to the Lions.
But the whole experience was very carthatic and made me realise that I’m not alone and not crazy.
If you’re reading this, thanks again Grift for the opportunity to present at your work. It was a risk for you, as I could have totally bombed it and made both of us look like a tit!
But luckily that didn’t happen, so thank you mate.
Finally, I want do more of these talks because I believe how much energy you have matters, and that people should be talking more about their energy, and constructive ways to improve it.
If you or anyone you know might be interested in this type of presentation, please get in touch.
Cheers.
PS: And just when I thought the week couldn’t get any better, I found out last night a close friend is now one blood test away from being in remission from his rare autoimmune disease. So good.
I don't think you're crazy at all - working out how much I need to eat and focusing on my sleep have been two measures that I've implemented recently that have been a game changer. I'm training better, work performance is up, and it's something that we are in complete control. Watching the evolution from weight loss focus to energy and how we use it has been great to follow.
Well done Ben! Wish I could listen to the presentation. Also, looks like even Spiderman turned up to the talk at the back of the room there.
