Hi Ben Thanks for sharing your story and about life energy when the battery is low! I know that feeling and resetting and reframing is important. we are thrilled to have you at KPMG - a big change and a different dynamic but I know you will put the work in the benefits will come :) Being adaptive is the skill set you are working hard at and it will stand you in good stead! #gobrumbies

PS: Congrats on the announcement today Cath! You should be very proud of what you've built over the last 37 years, and I'll certainly miss bumping into you around the office for a chat! Looking forward to getting to know Andrew Sprong as well, and have been very impressed in my brief interactions with him so far.

Just back to your comment, can you please explain why reframing is important?

You're welcome Cath. I hope that sharing my story can help people to spot the warning signs of when their battery is on empty, and how to recharge it. Surprised at how common burnout is at the moment, and have been somewhat comforted to know that I wasn't alone. Absolutely thrilled to be at KPMG and #gobrumbies indeed!

Just tremendous Ben - both the story you’re sharing and your skill as a writer and story-teller in such an important and oft cliche filled space. Means a great deal to many of us, Best, Kate & Clare Carnell.

Overload burnout can really take its toll and you certainly had a lot on your plate. But I’m always very inspired by how motivated you always seem to be. Congrats on your new position. …I’m sure you’ll go well. I hope it takes a bit of the burden off you

Thanks Sarah and my motivation always came from having lots of energy for whatever I was doing. But glad my energy is back and the new position played a huge part with that. Thanks again for reading as your support over the past few years with Alfred and the blog really means a lot. Up the Owls!

Top stuff, Ben. Have a similar thingy going on. Got a grown-up job with the requirement to wear actual long pants, even a suit on occasion, the payment for which takes a lot of weight off and allows the passion projects to bubble along in the background without the pressure of thinking they're the only road to glory. And not bad fun either. Good luck with KPMG. Will get along for a run with you one evening when i'm in the hood.

Spot on Matt. Still have the sights firmly focused on what I want to achieve with Alfred (help people to have more energy) and a change of course was needed. Really appreciate your message and see you for a run soon!

You’re never alone, Ben. Start-ups and biz in general is hard work, of which you’re no stranger too! But then add in life’s daily admin, deaths of loved ones and a rolling pandemic - you’ve got the ultimate cluster. It’s a huge test that we all have to make our way through at some point in life.

Glad to hear KPMG is home for now while you find the next gear.

Thanks for sharing (really appreciate your honesty) & Up-Up Brumbs!🐴

Thanks mate. Where were you sitting? And where are you watching the game next Saturday? We should sit Duncan down and make him watch a real game!

We were up in the Gregan-Larkham stand, keeping nice and dry! What a game! No idea where I can watch the next game... should be a good one though. Dunk's not a fan? I must admit that my kids have really got me back into it this year (they're sports mad!) Loving it!

Come watch it at the dock! I'm seeing Bukey on Wednesday and will get in his ear about coming too

Change initiatives can get messy, so I reckon your scrummaging experience will help with change management!

Good move and glad to hear you are doing well. I worked for EY consulting for about 5 years - great experience.

Cheers,

Ben

Oh and go all the Aussie teams this weekend!

Thanks mate! I've been hoping all that scrummaging would come in handy one day, but not sure how? That's great re EY. Any advice?
