I love a good law.

One that pops to mind is “everything reverts to the mean”. It can be interpreted as another saying “this too shall pass”.

Everything good is finite, everything bad is finite, so lean into the good and be grateful for it, and lean into the bad and learn from it.

Haha even from death we can learn. From contemplating our own to learning about ourselves and our lives from the passing of others. Maybe the trick is borrowing the lessons we'd learn from dying and implementing them before we die...?

How often do you think about death?

I reckon every day as a form of meditation. Sounds grim but it's actually quite positive in my opinion.

I'll ask myself questions like:

If I died tomorrow and was conscious of it, would I be happy with how I spent my last week?

If someone close to me died, how would I feel?

I think the core of it, is that it reminds me about what really matters in life.

Parkinson's Law:

"Parkinson's Law is the adage that work will expand to fill the time allotted for its completion".

Which is why I think the 4 day work week is possible and a good idea!

Yep, I learned this the hard way. Went above and beyond to get my work done quicker in the hope of impressing people, only to wind up being given other peoples work to do while they took it easy.

So your rewarded for doing good work with more/other people's work?

Exactly. Which is why you have to set your own boundaries, because no one else will set them for you. Gotta have enough respect for yourself to tell people no, even if they’re your superior or whatever.

100% agree and I've learn this the hard way. Doing better work on Alfred now only being 1 day a week vs when I was full time!

My fave (as an atheist) is “natural law”. It’s a theory in ethics/philosophy: human beings possess intrinsic values that govern their reasoning and behavior. So basically the rules of what is right and wrong are inherent in people and are not created by society or court judges. Fascinating shit! 🤓

Kind of like the old Ganhdi saying?

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,

Your thoughts become your words,

Your words become your actions,

Your actions become your habits,

Your habits become your values,

Your values become your destiny.”

Sorta...more like everyone is born with an innate sense of right and wrong. Like the basis for “nature vs nurture” arguments
