Societal conditioning makes us feel lazy if we're not busy or hustling.
Nice to hear you're enjoying a stress free period. Sometimes we get so used to being in a stressed state we don't know what it feels like to not be stressed.
I say enjoy it :) It's a continuum so that's not to say you won't feel stress ever again, just right now you've got a fine balance but also maybe you're nervous system is more regulated so it takes a bit more to get you in the stress zone?
Well said re how society has conditioned us and I'm def enjoying it! Not sure how long it will last, but I think never being as stressed at work again like iI was is possible. Have reduced all expectations and built better systems for getting the work thats needs to be done, done.
Yep I can relate too. It’s a bit of a vicious cycle. Take the foot off the throttle too much when I don’t have close deadlines, and then end up under much more pressure and stress than I needed to be when those deadlines get closer. Then exhausted after the deadline so take the foot off again… repeat. If you figure out a solution let me know!
Very vicious and I bloody hate it! I def don't have a perfect solution, but reducing all expectations re work and building better systems for getting the bare minimum done well seems to be working!
1000% agree - I have always worked best under pressure or when I have had an end goal to work towards
I swapped jobs a few years ago and the pace was very different and took a while to shift and I enjoyed it and recently we had quite a hiccup at work and it’s been crazy and flicked a switch very quickly back into that crazy person of everything into work and I don’t like that!
I’ve let a lot of things (including not being back to R4R since my first few times 🙄) because of that stressed environment I feel I need to be in!
Happy to share! We recently had a IT hardware malfunction at work and for us it meant we lost a lot of data, student assessments, teacher marking and then lesson preparation etc
So for me - it then tipped me back into just work, work, work
And I guess my main focus was lessening the impact on stress on the students - whilst piling it on me and perhaps I didn’t need to do it and I have ridiculously high expectations on myself in my job
It’s a habit I find very hard to break, I’ll sacrifice myself (and things I love) rather than let others down even though it comes at a high cost to me (does that make sense?)
Hey BA, similar with the fact, if you don't feel busy, you are wasting time. That is a reason we moved south to get away from the hussle of the big smoke and to actually slow down, smell the roses and just enjoy life at a manageable pace. The stresses of life are still there, it's now just at a more acceptable pace of life.

It’s a tricky one - so totally get it!
Thank you Kate. I'm interested to know what happened that tipped things back into stress mode. Do you mind sharing?

Thanks for sharing Katie! High expectations are great, but I've found they can be crippling if I can't balance them with self care. Bloody IT!
Thanks Ben!
10000% - I have 2 more days left till the school holidays 🙌🏻 and I will reset myself and get myself back into the ME routine and headspace!
