This is what happened to me in Canberra. I got rewarded for doing heaps of work by being given more work. It was great initially because I proved myself and got a few promotions but it got old pretty quick.

Made the move to the coast heaps easier. Less work load, more autonomy.

Then they couldn’t understand why I wanted to leave and were filthy at me for doing so.

Look after me or I’ll have to look after myself!

Yep. There’s gotta be more incentives at work than just more work and money.

I got led down the garden path for ages and I finally realised I was being taken advantage of. Then they tried to shut the gate after the horse had bolted.

Leaders reward good work proactively, not reactively. Bosses reward it only when they feel they have to.

100% and good leaders set up systems where rewards are received immediately once there due/deserved.

Exactly and they’re systemised so that they can be worked towards and people know what they are. No grey area.

Thanks for sharing Ben!

Really interesting points regarding athlete Vs other workers. I personally see being a professional athlete as a 24/7 job. When you're on, you're on, but what you do in your free time can also impact your performance at work. Athletes often can't attend friends weddings/family events etc when they fall during the season. Rehab group players I believe are the hardest working of the lot.

Up the Brumbies!!

Agreed re rehab groups as rehabbing sucks!!! But the more I adjust to office life, the more I think it’s very similar to performing on the sports field, as what anyone does outside of work massively impacts the quality of their work.

Rehab does suck, but is much more tolerable if there is a group of you.

It does indeed, I don't go out on weeknights for that reason. If I get to bed late, it makes me tired for the rest of the day/week.

My niece had emergency hernia surgery on Sunday and I was at the hospital with my sister from a bit after 8am until 4.15pm and then back for half an hour at 8.30pm. Followed by a busy work schedule, I felt it took until Thursday ro recover and I even had 7 hours sleep on the Saturday night unlike my sister who had no sleep until they were home at 11.30pm on Sunday. Zoe is a champ and recovering well.

Rest up Zoe and everything is easier when done with the right group!
