Thanks for sharing. This just shows how important it is to continue talking to people, both already and newly connected. It's so easy to shut off to others due to shame but only through sharing, can others help.
I’m on my fourth day using it. I’m using it because I was using the stress of life during a frantic period of life become an excuse for me to eat poorly during certain times of the day and I was putting on a bit of weight. I’ve lost 25+ kgs three seperate times in my adult life and I don’t want to do it again, particularly if I can avoid it. I just want to be healthy and feel like I have energy, especially now I’m a dad. I know what it’s like to feel like basic things are a big effort and I don’t want to feel like that again. I guess I also want to set a good example for my boy when he’s old enough to understand.
Yeah it’s perfect. I’m not setting any real metric goals or anything. You gotta eat every day so now I have an easy, efficient way of tracking it, I may as well do it and at least be aware of what I’m eating. I think that approach will make it heaps easier to stick to it.
How did you come to realise this? Because this is the main benefit of tracking that I've struggled to help people understand. We use calendars to track our time, and bank balances to track our money. But why don't we track how much energy we need and eat?
Honestly, I don’t know!? I just thought about it from this exchange. I just like how I can Chuck it in there and know where I’m at. Haven’t been hungry yet either.
Great writing taking us through the thought process with the Giants crew.
Sounds like you're hanging around the right people to support you getting Alfred where it needs to go (which could be different than what you originally had in mind when you started!).
I've always liked the quote "You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with." Seems like you're hanging with the right gang! Look forward to the next one.
Cheers Ben and I like that quote too. Had an argument with a very old friend last night who's becoming increasingly negative and hard to interact with. I know his back story and that he's doing it tough, so I want to cut him some slack, but he refuses to do anything about it. Sad to say but I don't want him to bring my average down anymore, as everyone else I'm hanging out with is great!
I think being clear about your audience and market makes a lot of sense. I went to download the Alfred app yesterday and strangely I started installing and completing the registration...as soon as it started asking me for weight and height etc.....i immediately paused and thought..."I'll come back to that later". Now obviously subconsciously i knew that that it is a completely logical step in an app like this to request that data. I definitely wasn't 'triggered' but I've conditioned myself to avoid weighing scales and talking about calorie counting in front of my three daughters. However, I also have a goal of dropping a few kilos to improve my distance running. So i perhaps need to open my mind a bit to tools that might help me do this.
Great feedback Charley! Yeah, that's very interesting and I think a part of that putting down of the app is also tied to the fact that you are not our target market, as Alfred will help people most who have a lot of weight to lose and aren't active. You're neither!
As I said, Alfred is really about "eating mindfully" as calorie-counting is just a way to gamify food tracking and make it sound scientific. In reality, people can just write down what they eat in a diary without even looking at the calories and will eat better as a result, because they are now being mindful about what they eat. Unless you have great eating habits, eating on autopilot today (with so much junk food easily available) is a recipe for low self-esteem, from my experience.

Thanks Anthony. Which post are you referring too? Totally agree with the importance of what your saying, just not sure how it’s related to this post.

Awesome mate and I'm confident Alfred will help you find the balance between eating poorly, and doing whatever you did those times to lose 25kgs+.

Spot on. Aware of what you're eating whether you've given yourself enough fuel to smash out everything you need to get done each day.
And just another thing I do in my life I can semi automate so I have more mental energy for the other things I want to do

I hear you - I stopped hanging around one old friend because it wasn't working for me any more... difficult but a good move in the end
