Before I bang on about how good David Pocock is, a quick thanks for all the incredible feedback about the launch of the R4R podcast. Couldn’t be happier with how it turned out and excited to share episode 2 with the Anytime Fitness Founder Rich Peil soon.
Senator Pocock
On Saturday, David Pocock became the ACT’s first re-elected independent senator, comfortably beating long-time politician Katie Gallagher.
And he did it by getting double the votes from his first election in 2022.
Which is unheard of. But not surprising if you know him.
He’s the most focused and reasonable human I’ve ever met, and it’s clear the voters are starting to see that too.
He actually listens. Almost uncomfortably so as he’s so present when you talk to him, that it can throw you off (maybe that’s because I’m used to talking to people who are either half-glancing at their phone or thinking about what they’re gonna say next instead of listening).
But not Poey. And I hope the senior politicians are paying attention to why he’s going so well.
And the red hot tip is it’s not because he’s independent or because of his “positions.”
It’s because he’s actually listening to people and representing them in a way that makes them proud.
And knowing he could be doing anything he wanted after footy (business, charity, whatever) but chose politics instead, makes me feel lucky.
Lucky to have someone like him representing me and my family, and I’m loving seeing him go after the major parties in the same way he used to go after the All Blacks ball at the ruck.
I’m not trying to bag every politician.
But the major parties are completely compromised by vested interests, and we badly need more transparency about which pollies are giving lobbyists access to Parliament House
And while we’ll probably never going to get rid of that stuff entirely, knowing he’s in there doing his best to keep them honest, makes me hopeful they’ll have to lift their game.
There’s a fox in the henhouse people. And that’s a bloody good thing for us all.
Long may it continue.
Team Pocock :)
One the the quotes from Katy I saw this week was, it's easier for independents. Labor were very threatened by his increase in popularity on Saturday. Can't wait to see what Poey achieves in the next 3 weeks.
Pocock is doing a great job.He is not just interested in green policy. He is making a major contribution. He is a thinker, He does his research and he does his work.
