Celebrating wins gives me the energy to keep going.
But somewhere along the way in my rugby career, I lost sight of that.
I’d finish a game and instead of soaking it in, I’d go straight into review mode: what could I have done better? What needs fixing?
And that sucked the fun out of rugby.
But that’s not a mistake I’m going to make again, and I’m writing this as a celebration of a big win from yesterday, as I got flown to Melbourne to do talks for Whittlesea Council.
And they went great!
The first was in the morning, with their depot staff (garbage collectors, road workers, etc). I’d been warned they’d be a tough crowd, but they ended up giving me the best reaction and feedback I’ve had yet! Which I took that as a sign that my story’s clear, relatable, and hitting home.
Then I had to back it up in the arvo with a session for their office staff, which went well too.
It was the first time I’ve done two talks in a day, and I was wrecked by the end.
But I’m bloody proud of how I showed up and it’s capped off an epic week, after a great session with the Western Australian Rugby Referees Association on Sunday too.
I used to hate public speaking.
But now I bloody love it and I’m proud of myself for pushing through that fear.
I couldn’t be more excited about where this speaking journey is heading. And later this year, I’ll be working with a coach to take my talks to the next level.
I want to do that because I believe energy is the foundation of good mental health and performance. And that’s a message worth spreading.
So with that said, I’m off to celebrate!
Cheers!
