Thank you Laurie
A great of the game retires, Alfred accuracy, and introducing "Read of the week"
There's not much more to say about the Brumbies nail-biting win on Saturday night, other than it was the perfect send-off for long-time coach Laurie “The Lord” Fisher.
Laurie is retiring after 30 years of coaching and played a huge role in my career.
Apart from giving me my first contract, he taught me so much about the game and the hard work required to succeed. I'll never forget his brutal goal-line defence sessions that was no place for the faint-hearted, but no doubt paid dividends during the final 5 mins of Saturday night.
If your reading Lord, thank you for everything you’ve done for me and the game the of Rugby.
And geez that Luke Reimer is some player!
If you didn’t watch Saturday night’s quarter-final, Reimer saved the day by getting his hand under the ball to stop the Hurricanes from scoring the match-winning try.
He’s been huge for us all year, often forcing key penalties late in games. And he should’ve been awarded a match-winning penalty in last year’s preliminary final, that would have taken us to the Grand Final.
But fast forward 12 months from that night, and I can’t wait for this Saturday’s preliminary final against the Chiefs.
The Brumbies are looking to make history and become the first Aussie team to win a knockout match across the Tasman. And if we do, there’s no doubt Luke Reimer will be in the thick of it.
Go well.
Alfred
A question I'm often asked about Alfred is “How accurate is it?”. And instead of me telling you how accurate it is or isn't, I thought I'd just share the data sources we used to figure out the calories in our user’s meals.
We use a combination of free databases such as Myfitnesspals and Food Standards Australia's, and if the item is sold at a supermarket (or is a popular brand), we Google it to find the Coles or Woolies (or brand’s) website to get the nutritional information directly.
And for homecooked meals or ones that don’t have barcodes, we’ve begun using AI to give us an approximate answer, before our nutrition students use their intuition to decide if it’s right.
Not a perfect system, but one that’s getting better each month, and we’ve now had 185,000 meals tracked. If you’re keen to know more about Alfred, click here.
Read of the week
Apologies if this blog feels rushed and all over the place. But I'm trying to remind myself that each post doesn’t need to be perfect, and stressing about it is just a waste of energy.
I'll also start sharing my favourite article I read over the past week, in the hope it offers you as much value as it did for me.
185k meals, that's elite!
Reimer is such a great finisher! Has been consistent all year and turns it on when the need it the most 🙌🙌
