Founded in 2019 by Matt Breen, 10 years after losing his father to suicide,
(R4R) began as a one-off run of 20 people from the Dock.Today, R4R hosts four weekly events, drawing more than 500 people, all dedicated to suicide awareness and prevention.
And after hearing we’d helped save lives, we set the goal of a suicide free ACT.
This step to formalise R4R has been made possible thanks to a generous donation by Anytime Fitness founders (and Central Coast Mariners owners) Jess and Richard Peil. Their contribution will help ensure the long-term viability of R4R, and help expand its reach to more pubs across the region.
Breeny: “The best thing about R4R is our community. From the thousands of people who’ve run or walked, to the 20 or so volunteers that organise what we do. And now Jess and Rich. We truly believe a suicide-free Canberra is possible, and it’s clear that more and more people are starting to believe it's possible too.”
Jess Peil: “Rich and I know exercise is great for mental health. But making it social takes that to a whole new level. What R4R has done for the community is astounding and we’re 100% behind everything R4R stands for.”
